24 Jiu Jitsu Caerphilly – Training Waiver & Welcome
Greetings, future BJJ black belt!
Hi, please read fully and sign. (Important info)
Welcome to the world of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) at 24 Jiu Jitsu Caerphilly!
We’re thrilled you’re here - ready to roll, learn, and challenge yourself in one of the most rewarding martial arts on the planet.
Before we jump on the mats together, we just need to cover a few important bits so everyone stays safe, supported, and properly covered.
Liability & Assumption of Risk
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a physical, contact martial art involving grappling, throws, chokes, and joint-locking submission techniques.
You understand and accept that:
-
Participation in BJJ carries inherent risks, including but not limited to sprains, strains, dislocations, loss of consciousness, and other injuries.
-
While injuries are uncommon and serious injuries are rare, no activity of this nature is risk-free.
-
You voluntarily choose to participate and accept full responsibility for your own body and actions while training.
24 Jiu Jitsu Caerphilly and its instructors aim to provide a safe, supportive, and controlled training environment. However, you acknowledge that you train at your own risk.
You agree not to hold 24 Jiu Jitsu Caerphilly, its instructors, assistant instructors, volunteers, or venue liable for any injury, loss, or damage arising from training or participation, except where liability cannot be excluded by law (e.g. proven negligence).
Tapping Out & Submission Safety (Very Important)
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu uses submission techniques such as joint locks and chokes to simulate real control.
You acknowledge and agree that:
-
You are responsible for tapping out early and clearly (by tapping with your hand, foot, or verbally) when caught in a submission or if you feel pain, pressure, panic, dizziness, or discomfort.
-
Some techniques, particularly joint locks, may not cause immediate pain before injury occurs.
-
Failing to tap in time, resisting a submission, or attempting to “tough it out” can result in serious injury, including joint dislocation or loss of consciousness.
-
Instructors may briefly apply techniques for demonstration or safety purposes and will release immediately upon a tap or instruction to stop.
-
Choosing not to tap, ignoring instruction, or training beyond your limits is done entirely at your own risk.
There is no reward for toughness in training — tapping early is part of learning safely.
Instructor Authority & Class Safety
For the safety of all participants, instructors have full authority to:
-
Control the pace and intensity of training;
-
Limit or stop any activity at any time;
-
Restrict or refuse live sparring;
-
Separate training partners;
-
Require a participant to rest or stop training for safety reasons.
You agree to follow all safety instructions given by instructors.
Failure to do so may increase the risk of injury.
Medical Fitness & Responsibility
You confirm that you are physically fit to participate in BJJ training.
You agree to:
-
Disclose any pre-existing injuries, joint instability, recurring conditions (e.g. shoulder dislocations), or medical issues before training;
-
Immediately inform an instructor if you feel pain, injury, dizziness, or unwell at any point.
- If in doubt - STOP!
In the event of an emergency where you are unable to consent, you authorise 24 Jiu Jitsu Caerphilly staff to arrange appropriate medical assistance.
Booking & Insurance Cover
All sessions must be pre-booked through our system before stepping onto the mats.
This is essential because:
-
Booking activates your insurance cover;
-
Attending without booking may invalidate your insurance, meaning you may not be covered in the event of injury;
-
Booking allows us to manage class sizes safely and ensure appropriate coaching supervision.
Mutual Promise
We promise to bring our best energy, coaching, and care to every session.
In return, you agree to:
-
Train responsibly and respectfully;
-
Look after your training partners;
-
Communicate clearly if something doesn’t feel right;
-
Help us maintain a safe, positive, and supportive training environment.
We’re all in this together — to learn, grow, and enjoy the journey on the mats.
